Lipper Leaders

Why this site?
-
This site tracks, evaluates and rates unit trust funds from all over the world (Malaysia included).
-
Each unit trust fund is rated via a specially designed system called "Lipper Leader Rating System".
-
What sets the Lipper Leader Rating System apart is its use of ‘investor-centered’ metrics rather than asset- or style/strategy-based criteria. Lipper Ratings provide an instant measure of a fund’s success against five key metrics:
-
Total Return - The Lipper Rating for Total Return denotes a fund that has provided superior total returns (income from dividends and interest as well as capital appreciation) when compared to a group of similar funds.
-
Consistent Return - The Lipper Rating for Consistent Return identifies a fund that has provided relatively superior consistency and risk-adjusted returns when compared to a group of similar funds. Funds which achieve high ratings for Consistent Return may be the best fit for investors who value a fund's year-to-year consistency relative to other funds in a particular peer group.
-
Preservation - The Lipper Rating for Preservation is a fund that has demonstrates a superior ability to preserve capital in a variety of markets when compared with other funds in its asset class.
-
Expense - The Lipper Rating for Expense identifies a fund that has successfully managed to keep its expenses low relative to its peers and within its load structure. However funds from Malaysia are not rated for this metric.
-
Tax Efficiency - For US only.
-
-
Funds are compared to similar funds, and only those that truly stand out are awarded Lipper Leader status for each metric as shown below:
-
Investors can search for "Lipper Leader" status funds via the search function located on the webpage. This function allows an investor to search for funds according to the key metrics listed above. However for Malaysia unit trust funds only three key metrics are used:
-
Total Return
-
Consistent Return
-
Preservation
-
-
The best thing is that this site is also FREE to use!
Tip : When searching for Lipper Leader funds, I tend to only select "Total Return" and "Consistent Return" criteria while leaving out "Preservation" This because I believe that equity based funds should be aggresive and volatile in order for investors to take advantage of the unit trust price fluctuation.
